US-India joint training begin in Rajasthan

New Delhi: India and the United States had started their joint military training sessions named as ‘Yudh Abhyas 2011-12’ in the deserts of Rajasthan, media reported on Tuesday.

According to media reports the exercise would witness troops from both nations engaging each other in a series of drills to combat anti-terror activities and urban warfare training.
The US team would be lead by Colonel Thomas J Roth having 170 members. The Indian team will be led by Brigadier BS Dhanoa.
The report states that the US Army was represented by troops from 25 Infantry Division while the Indian side had pitched in troops from Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and Mechanised Infantry.
Both sides would deploy state of the art surveillance equipment, tracking systems, specialist weapons necessary for close quarter battle with militants, detectors for tracking and uncovering explosives and Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The latest communications equipment would also be used.
A series of perfectly chiseled tactical drills will be planned and executed by both teams. The training was meant to neutralize possible threats that could be encountered in peace keeping operations of UN. The scenario would be akin to a UN peace enforcement locale. Mechanised forces from both sides would display their tactical and scientific skills. The 2 week training session would also involve drills and military exercises involving Infantry Combat Vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carrier.
Earlier in 2009, the US and the Indian army had participated in ‘Yudh Abhyas-2009′.
